A Greek Wedding in Paros
Mariantzela & Petros
2020 was a very strange year for everyone. The pandemic affected all corners of the earth and disrupted normality to a huge extent. Most of the events that were planned for the summer of 2020 were either rescheduled for next year or canceled altogether and the once very promising wedding season ceased completely. For this very reason, the few weddings that did happen, although relatively small events with very short guest lists, had something special in them. From a wedding photographer’s point of view, you get to enjoy the few jobs that are still going to happen and approach them with a very warm and positive attitude. You can only appreciate the determination and passion that drives the couple to go on with their wedding no matter what compromises have to be made. This is exactly how I felt when Mariantzela and Petros confirmed that they are still going to have their wedding in Paros this summer.
Although both still very young, they have been together for more than 10 years and yet, it seems as if they had just met each other and immediately fell in love! They are the kind of people that you can really connect with, very friendly and incredibly easy to get along with, a fact that allowed me to blend in and be a part of their wedding, not a photographer who was just hired to get the job done. Nevertheless, the job was done, and in my opinion in a very beautiful and meaningful way. Looking at the photos now, I realize that, although Mariantzela and Petros had to compromise in a few areas, their boldness was greatly rewarded. July is usually one of the busiest months of the season but this year it was very quiet, uncrowded and almost serene, the perfect Cycladic landscape for a wedding.
